Tuition and Fees

The Nova Scotia PhD Program in Educational Studies offers high quality programming at an affordable rate.

Application/Confirmation Fees

An application fee of $100 CAD is due at the time of applying to the program. A confirmation fee of $320 CAD is due when an offer to the program is accepted. This confirmation fee holds a seat in the program.

Tuition Fees/Continuation Fees

Doctoral students pay a program tuition fee (rather than course-based fee). As of July 1, 2018, students pay a fee of $10,455 CAD for each of the first two years, and then a $2,984 CAD program continuation fee per year until completion of the Dissertation (flat rate).

The program tuition fee covers 7 units of course work and any Special Topics and/or Directed Studies required by the IDAC and offered within the participating institutions.

Payment Dates

Tuition fees for the initial two years of the program can be paid in one (in full) or 2 installments: $6,455 by June 1st plus $320 auxiliary fees (less any deposits), and the balance by December 1st. For the first year of the program, the full-time tuition fee includes all courses except those that doctoral students elect to take outside of the initial or subsequently revised Plan of Study.

Payments are made to the student’s home institution. Tuition fees must be paid by the payment due dates in order to remain in the program.

Late Payment

Penalties for late payment are regulated by the policies in place at the home institution.

Tuition and Fees Disclaimer

Tuition fees, after your first year, are subject to change without notice. The fees stated above apply to Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada.

International Student Fees

International differential will be a matching amount for each scenario, i.e. a first/second year international student would pay $20,910 CAD, and a continuing international student would pay $5,968 CAD.
