Curriculum Studies

Curriculum Studies is one of the six fields of study supported by the Nova Scotia PhD Program in Educational Studies.

The curriculum studies field of study addresses theoretical, philosophical and ideological issues related to curriculum research and curriculum design, implementation, and evaluation of educational initiatives.

Doctoral students studying in this area critically examine a range of curriculum scholars (conservative, structural-functional, critical, progressive, narrative and arts based). Students drawn to this theme are interested in the cross-disciplinary work of curriculum studies scholars.

How educators are socialized into the teaching role affects the curricula they develop and deliver. This field of study provides doctoral students an opportunity to focus on how professional (teacher) socialization informs curriculum practices.
