Tuition and Fees

The Nova Scotia PhD Program in Educational Studies offers high quality programming at an affordable rate.

Application/Confirmation Fees

An application fee of $100 CAD is due at the time of applying to the program. A confirmation fee of $370 CAD is due when an offer to the program is accepted. This confirmation fee holds a seat in the program.

Payment of Program Fee 2023/2024 (Tuition)

DOMESTIC: All doctoral students must pay their tuition fees at their home institution. Full-time tuition fee for students in their first or second year is $12,130 plus $370 auxiliary fees per year. Payments are due in the following installments; $7,950 by June 1st (less any deposits paid), and the balance of $4,550 by December 1st. For the first year of the program, the full-time tuition fee includes all courses, except those that doctoral students elect to take outside of the Initial or subsequently revised Plan of Study. After the first two years of the program, a continuation fee, which is currently (2023/2024) $3,465 plus auxiliary fees per year is charged and must be paid by June 1st of each year. Tuition fees, after your first year, are subject to change. Tuition fees must be paid by the payment deadlines in order to start or continue in the program. Students who do not make their first fee instalment by June 1st, 2023 will be removed from the program. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have funding in place to meet this obligation. You are encouraged to contact the Financial Services office at your home university to discuss tuition fees.

INTERNATIONAL: All doctoral students must pay their tuition fees at their home institution. Full-time tuition fee for international students in their first or second year is $24,260 plus $370 auxiliary fees per year. Payments are due in the following installments; $15,635 by June 1st (less any deposits paid), and the balance of $8,995 by December 1st. For the first year of the program, the full-time tuition fee includes all courses, except those that doctoral students elect to take outside of the Initial or subsequently revised Plan of Study. After the first two years of the program, a continuation fee, which is currently (2023/2024) $6,930 plus auxiliary fees per year for international students, is charged and must be paid by June 1st of each year. Tuition fees, after your first year, are subject to change. Tuition fees must be paid by the payment deadlines in order to start or continue in the program. Students who do not make their first fee instalment by June 1st, 2023 will be removed from the program. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have funding in place to meet this obligation. Tuition fees must be paid by the payment due dates in order to remain in the program.

Late Payment

Penalties for late payment are regulated by the policies in place at the home institution.
